Gandhinagar, June 8 (NationPress) Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has sanctioned a substantial Rs 107 crore grant aimed at enhancing road repair and resurfacing initiatives in 149 municipalities throughout Gujarat.
This significant measure is part of the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana, particularly through the Mukhyamantri Shaheri Road Yojana, designed to guarantee safer and improved road conditions in urban settings ahead of the impending monsoon.
Recognizing the potential hazards that heavy rains may inflict on urban roads, the Chief Minister has proposed a forward-thinking strategy for prompt road repairs and resurfacing. The allocated funds will allow municipalities to commence repair activities early, thus minimizing disruptions during the rainy season. The distribution of the grant will be contingent upon the classification of each municipality.
According to the approved distribution plan, 37 Category ‘A’ municipalities will each receive Rs one crore, 34 Category ‘B’ municipalities will get Rs 80 lakh each, 61 Category ‘C’ municipalities will be allocated Rs 60 lakh each, and 17 Category ‘D’ municipalities will receive Rs 40 lakh each. In total, these funds, amounting to Rs 107 crore, will be allocated through the Gujarat Urban Development Mission (GUDM). Beyond addressing monsoon-related damage, roads impacted by recent projects such as water pipeline or drainage installations will also be prioritized for repairs.
Municipalities have the option to request additional support, and the state government is prepared to allocate funds as necessary, even beyond the current Rs 107 crore grant. On June 6, Patel had previously approved development projects exceeding Rs 1,700.57 crore in a single day. This funding will facilitate a diverse array of initiatives across six newly established municipal corporations, five municipalities, and the Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar Municipal Corporations, as part of the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Urban Development Scheme.
Of the total sanctioned funds, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will receive Rs 546 crore while Gandhinagar will be allocated Rs 32 crore. Among the newly formed municipal corporations, Anand is set to receive Rs 148 crore, Morbi Rs 270.08 crore, Surendranagar Rs 257.60 crore, Nadiad Rs 71.91 crore, Vapi Rs 251.91 crore, and Navsari Rs 90.35 crore.
The funding approval also extends to smaller municipalities: Vadnagar will be granted Rs 16.37 crore, Himmatnagar Rs 7.33 crore, Siddhpur Rs 3.74 crore, Halvad Rs 4.02 crore, and Bharuch Municipality will receive Rs 85.52 lakh.
