The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) convened a biannual group meeting at Hedgewar Bhavan in Maninagar, Ahmedabad on Tuesday, 25 August, bringing together representatives of its economic and service affiliates alongside Gujarat cabinet ministers and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders. The gathering was conducted in two sessions, both concluded on the same day.

What the Meeting Was — and Was Not

RSS Prant Karyavah Shailesh Patel was categorical in clarifying the nature of the event. 'First of all, today's meeting was a group meeting. It was not a coordination meeting. Group meetings are held twice a year,' Patel said. The distinction is significant: coordination meetings carry a different organisational weight within the Sangh's structure, and some earlier reports had incorrectly characterised Tuesday's gathering as one.

Organisations Represented

The economic group session drew representatives from bodies including the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, and Laghu Udyog Bharati — organisations spanning farmers, labour, and small industry. The service group included the National Medicos Organisation, Ayurvedic Vyaspeeth, and Bharat Vikas Parishad. The second session, held in the afternoon, focused on organisations engaged in ideological and educational activities.

Ministers and Leaders Who Attended

The afternoon session was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, along with ministers Arjun Modhwadia, Pradyuman Vaja, Kanu Desai, Jitu Vaghani, and Praful Pansheriya. State BJP President Jagdish Vishwakarma and RSS Co-Secretary Arun Kumar were also present. According to Patel, ministers attended specifically to interact with organisations falling under the group for which each session was being held — providing a direct channel for sectoral representatives to raise concerns with the government.

Context: RSS Centenary-Year Activities

The meeting comes as the RSS continues its centenary-year activities across India, with state-level interactions spanning social, economic, educational, and service sectors. Such biannual group meetings are a standard feature of the Sangh's organisational calendar, though the simultaneous presence of senior state ministers lends Tuesday's gathering added political visibility.
