Gurugram, April 19 (NationPress) The Gurugram Police disclosed on Saturday that the individual accused in the air hostess sexual assault incident is a pornography addict, according to an official statement.
Gurugram Police Spokesperson Sandeep Kumar revealed that the accused frequently viewed pornographic videos, a fact corroborated by the mobile phone retrieved from him.
During the police interrogation, it was established that the accused holds a B.Sc. (OT) degree from a private institution from 2019 to 2022 and was an average performer academically.
“For the past five months, he has been employed as a treatment machine technician in the hospital's ICU. The accused's presence near the victim at the time of the incident was confirmed through the CCTV footage installed in the hospital,” he stated.
The spokesperson further indicated that the accused admitted to watching pornographic content both prior to and after the crime.
“This information has been validated through the search history on the accused’s mobile device. He was presented in court on Saturday, where he was remanded to judicial custody pending further legal proceedings,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) apprehended the accused on Friday after reviewing approximately 800 CCTV cameras situated within and around the hospital, where he sexually assaulted the woman while she was on a ventilator.
The suspect has been identified as Deepak (25), originally from Muzaffarpur, Bihar. He had been working as a treatment machine technician in the ICU for the past five months and was arrested within the Sadar police station precinct on Friday.
An official familiar with the investigation disclosed that the accused has admitted to his wrongdoing.
“In the course of the investigation, eight police teams scrutinized footage from 800 CCTV cameras within the hospital, and around 50 hospital personnel, including doctors, were interrogated regarding the incident. Given the gravity of the situation, the police teams conducted a thorough investigation and gathered substantial information related to the case, which led to significant progress in identifying the perpetrator,” stated Arpit Jain, DCP (Headquarters).
On Thursday, Vikas Kumar Arora, the Commissioner of Police in Gurugram, established an SIT and mandated the identification and apprehension of the suspect.
As directed by the Police Commissioner, an SIT was formed under the guidance of Arpit Jain, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Headquarters, Gurugram, with a total of eight distinct police teams assigned specific directives to gather information and evidence pertinent to the case.
Dr. Sanjay Durani, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, commented, “We have been informed that the police have identified a suspect who has been detained in connection with the ongoing investigation into allegations of sexual assault on a patient. Based on the information provided by the police, we have suspended the employee in question. While we await the final outcome of the investigation, we will continue to extend full cooperation to the police.”
