Gurugram, April 17 (NationPress) The Gurugram Police have established a six-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into the case of sexual abuse involving a 46-year-old air hostess on Thursday.
The SIT will be headed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) Arpit Jain, who will be assisted by two Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), along with three inspectors, including one from the Crime Branch, and the investigation officer (IO) assigned to the case.
This action follows the severity of the situation, which brings to light concerns regarding the protection of patients’ privacy and security during medical treatment.
Confirming the establishment of the SIT, DCP (headquarters) Arpit Jain informed IANS that “the SIT has been formed under his leadership to investigate the case further. However, he noted that the investigation is still in its preliminary phase, and updates will be provided as the situation develops.”
According to sources, the National Commission for Women (NCW) is set to conduct an independent inquiry.
The SIT is expected to meet with the complainant victim soon for expedited justice. Meanwhile, the 46-year-old air hostess has reported that she was sexually assaulted while on ventilator support in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a prominent private hospital in Gurugram on April 6.
The incident was revealed on April 13 when she disclosed the sexual assault to her husband, who then contacted the police through the 112 emergency number.
Following her complaint, a report was filed at the Sadar Police Station, Gurugram, on April 14.
In her police report, she stated that she had traveled to Gurugram for training on behalf of her company and was residing in a hotel. During her stay, her health declined due to drowning, which led to her admission to a private hospital for treatment.
On April 5, her husband admitted her to another hospital in Gurugram for further care. She was discharged on April 13.
“While receiving treatment on April 6, she was on a ventilator when some hospital staff members allegedly sexually assaulted her. At that moment, she was unable to speak and was frightened. She was also unconscious at the time of the incident, with two nurses present nearby,” the victim claimed in her report.
After her discharge, she informed her husband about the sexual assault, prompting him to alert the 112 police service and subsequently file a complaint in the presence of a legal advisor.
A police team was dispatched to the hospital to review the duty roster and examine CCTV footage to identify the accused, according to police reports.
In contrast, the private hospital has denied the air hostess’s allegations of being sexually assaulted by hospital staff while on a ventilator in the ICU, allegedly in the presence of two nurses.
In a statement released on April 15, the hospital asserted that “no allegations have been substantiated” thus far and that it has provided CCTV footage and relevant medical documentation to the authorities.
The hospital emphasized that it is “fully cooperating” with the investigations being conducted by the appropriate entities.
