Gurugram, April 8 (NationPress) The Gurugram Police apprehended the car driver accused in the hit-and-run incident involving a 28-year-old software engineer.
The deceased, Somita Singh, tragically lost her life in a road mishap after her rented BMW sports bike was struck by a Hyundai Verna in Gurugram on Sunday.
The suspect has been identified as Jai Yadav (34), residing in Global Tower, Ashok Vihar Phase-3, Gurugram. The vehicle involved in the accident has been confiscated by authorities.
Somita, originally from Lucknow, was returning to Noida from a bike ride in Gurugram’s Leopard Trail area with fellow riders when a speeding Verna collided with her bike, causing her severe injuries.
Fortunately, the bike itself sustained only minor damage. The police were notified of the incident, and Somita was rushed to a government hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon examination.
Officials from the Badshahpur police station visited the accident site, informed Somita's family, and arranged for the body to be sent for an autopsy.
On Monday morning, Somita's father, Mahendra Pal, arrived in Gurugram to retrieve her body post-autopsy.
Based on his formal complaint, the police initiated a case against the bike riding group under applicable legal provisions at the Badshahpur police station.
Reportedly, Somita had been employed at a Noida company for about eight months. Some colleagues were part of the 'Let’s Ride India Group', which she recently joined.
Moreover, Somita had been secretly undergoing training for sports biking.
The 'Let’s Ride Group' provides sports bike training for women and also offers sports bike rentals.
The motorcycle involved in Somita's accident was rented from this organization. She rode into Gurugram with a group of female riders from Sector 135, Noida, consisting of 20 to 25 participants.
Police disclosed that Somita had recently joined the biking group and typically spent weekends riding with friends.
Investigating officer Naveen Kumar from Badshahpur police station stated they received reports of a woman who had been involved in a fatal accident and died at Sector-10 Civil Hospital.
Upon receiving the alert, he proceeded to the hospital, where Somita's remains were taken to the mortuary via a private ambulance.
“The victim was operating a red G310-BMW (DL3SEM-4946) sports bike. She arrived at Leopard Cafe in Gurugram on Saturday evening with a rider group from Noida. During this outing, she collided with a Verna car (HR26EX-2514) on Leopard Trail Road, resulting in severe injuries that ultimately led to her death at the hospital,” Kumar reported.
He confirmed that a case has been filed regarding this incident.
“We are set to interrogate the bike-riding group to uncover the true circumstances surrounding the accident and to detain the negligent car driver,” he added.
