Chandigarh, Feb 20 (NationPress) Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has declared that potato farmers will now receive benefits from the Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana.

An official spokesperson reported on Thursday that an impressive sum of Rs 46.34 crore for 2023-24 has been allocated to farmers through this initiative.

Additionally, farmers are encouraged to store their potatoes in cold storage if market prices decline, ensuring their produce and earnings are protected.

The Bhavantar Bharpai scheme was launched to help farmers in the state reduce their financial risks.

The main goal of this initiative is to shield farmers from monetary losses stemming from decreases in wholesale market prices.

A total of 21 horticultural crops are included in the scheme, which encompasses five fruits, 14 vegetables, and two spice crops.

Under this program, a secured price is established based on the production costs of horticultural products.

Should market prices for these crops drop below the secured price during sales at mandis, farmers will receive compensation for the difference as incentive support.

Since its inception, 315,614 farmers have registered a total of 702,220 acres under this program, with over Rs 110 crore in assistance disbursed to 24,385 farmers.

To benefit from this scheme, farmers must register their crops on the 'Meri Fasal Mera Byora portal', which is subsequently verified by the Horticulture Department.

A gate pass is issued when the crop is transported to the market, and a ‘J Form’ is provided based on this process. Landowners, lessees, and tenants are all eligible for benefits under this initiative.

The government is also focused on the welfare of village chowkidars, increasing their monthly pay from Rs 7,000 to Rs 11,000.

Moreover, efforts are underway to issue identity cards for them, ensuring they encounter no difficulties in their duties.

During a meeting with the Gramin Chowkidar Sangh representatives, Additional Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Saket Kumar, confirmed that the process to fill vacant chowkidar positions will commence shortly. Currently, there are 7,301 chowkidars in the state, with 4,927 already appointed.
