Bhopal, March 9 (NationPress) As part of the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA), a health camp was held at a district hospital in Burhanpur, Madhya Pradesh, where 40 pregnant women received essential health assessments and counseling in the outpatient department (OPD).
This initiative offered valuable insights into maternal and newborn health, nutrition, and the significance of regular check-ups.
The health team recognized four high-risk cases, providing them with specialized medical guidance and necessary prescriptions for enhanced care.
Support helpline numbers were also distributed to facilitate ongoing assistance.
The PMSMA, a dedicated initiative launched by the central government, aims to deliver assured, free, and comprehensive antenatal care on the 9th of each month. This service is available to all pregnant women in their second and third trimesters at designated public health facilities, overseen by government obstetricians or medical officers.
In Burhanpur, these health camps were organized under the leadership of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and the Civil Surgeon.
A total of 40 expectant mothers participated, undergoing both physical and mental health evaluations.
District Officer Seema David mentioned to IANS, "Today we celebrate the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan. This campaign occurs bi-monthly on the 9th and 25th and emphasizes specialized health assessments for pregnant women..."
During the evaluations, it was discovered that four pregnant women were experiencing severe conditions, prompting health workers and families to prioritize special care and continuous monitoring.
Participants were also educated on the importance of maintaining both physical and mental well-being during pregnancy, along with timely check-ups, nutrition, and post-delivery care for mothers and newborns.
Several beneficiaries expressed their appreciation towards the Narendra Modi-led Union government for the initiatives that are believed to have contributed to a reduction in infant mortality rates and promoted the notion of safe and secure pregnancies.
A family member of a beneficiary stated, "We regularly bring expectant mothers here for ANC check-ups. If any signs of anemia are detected, we ensure appropriate measures are implemented before their next visit."
