Shimla, Jan 26 (NationPress) Defying the cold weather while enjoying sunny conditions, citizens across Himachal Pradesh celebrated the 76th Republic Day on Sunday.

The Tricolour was hoisted by Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla at the historic Ridge. He reviewed an impressive parade led by Parade Commander Lt. Gagandeep Chauhan from the 22nd Jammu and Kashmir Rifles.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu attended the event alongside his Cabinet members, as well as the Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur.

Participating in the march past were contingents from the Indian Army, the Indo-Tibet Border Police, Himachal Pradesh Armed Police, Punjab Police, state police, Home Guards, Fire Services, Himachal Pradesh Postal Services, Disaster Management, ex-servicemen, National Cadet Corps, National Service Scheme Cadets, and Bharat Scouts and Guides.

Tableaux highlighting various developmental initiatives from diverse departments captivated the audience. Cultural performances were showcased by groups from Kinnaur, Hamirpur, Shimla, and Mandi.

Additionally, troupes from the North Zone Cultural Centre in Patiala, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand also entertained the attendees.

Among those present were Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh, Deputy Chief Whip Kewal Singh Pathania, local legislator Harish Janartha, Chief Minister’s Principal Advisor (Media) Naresh Chauhan, Chief Minister's Political Advisor Sunil Sharma, Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena, Director General of Police Atul Verma, Principal Secretary Devesh Kumar, MC Shimla Mayor Surinder Chauhan, Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal, as well as numerous senior civil, police, and military officials, along with citizens from all over the state.

In spite of the chill, residents participated in flag-hoisting ceremonies and enjoyed the march past by security personnel and cultural displays by children in all towns throughout 12 districts.

In Dharamsala, the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) marked Republic Day at Gangchen Kyishong, celebrating the 1950 enactment of India’s Constitution. The event saw participation from officiating Sikyong Tharlam Dolma Changra, Deputy Speaker Dolma Tsering Teykhang, Norzin Dolma of the Department of Information and International Relations, along with senior officials, including CTA Secretaries.
