Himachal MP Harsh Mahajan Requests Highway to Link Chamba with Leh During Meeting with PM Modi

New Delhi, Dec 12 (NationPress) BJP's Rajya Sabha MP representing Himachal Pradesh, Harsh Mahajan, had a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, where he advocated for a highway to link Chamba town with Tisa, Pangi, Kishtwar, and ultimately Leh.

During this meeting, the Prime Minister took a moment to extend his birthday wishes to Mahajan.

Mahajan expressed that Prime Minister Modi has always regarded Himachal Pradesh as his second home and has made significant efforts for the state's development. “The Congress government in the state is receiving funds from the Centre but is attempting to misappropriate them,” Mahajan stated as per an official release.

He mentioned that a sum of Rs 89 crore is allocated for clean water and sanitation initiatives in Himachal Pradesh. Following the recommendations of the 15th Finance Commission, the Central government has allocated Rs 89 crore as a tied grant for the rural local bodies in Himachal.

“We express our gratitude to the Central government on behalf of the Bharatiya Janata Party for this support. Additionally, the state government has received Rs 81 crore as a non-conditional grant, marking the first instalment of a tied grant for the year 2024-25.

“The second instalment has been issued as a non-conditional grant, with an amount of Rs 58 crore already received by the state under this category. These funds will enhance essential services like drinking water supply and waste management in rural areas. The Centre's grant will be utilized by local bodies for two primary basic services. The first focus will be on eliminating open defecation, which includes managing domestic waste, human excreta, and faecal sludge treatment, thereby improving cleanliness in villages,” added Mahajan, a three-time legislator.

BJP's Harsh Mahajan, once a Congress ally known for his closeness to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu, secured a seat in the Rajya Sabha in February, triumphing over Congress candidate Abhishek Manu Singhvi amidst indications of cross-voting by at least six members of the ruling party.

Both nominees garnered 34 votes each in the 68-member assembly, including three Independent legislators believed to have supported the BJP. Mahajan was ultimately declared the winner following a draw of lots.
