HLL Lifecare Limited (HLL), the mini-Ratna Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, has launched a sweeping expansion of its healthcare operations, unveiling the AMRIT Plus premium pharmacy chain, Specialty HINDLABS advanced diagnostics, and HLL Home Healthcare Services — all announced from its headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram on 15 June. The move signals a deliberate shift by the state-owned enterprise from a medicines supplier into a full-spectrum healthcare solutions company.

AMRIT Plus: Upgrading the Pharmacy Experience

The new AMRIT Plus chain is positioned as a premium extension of HLL's established AMRIT (Affordable Medicines and Reliable Implants for Treatment) network, which has long been associated with low-cost medicines for public healthcare. The upgraded outlets are designed to combine affordability with an enhanced retail environment, stocking prescription medicines, medical devices, wellness and nutritional products, personal care items, and lifestyle healthcare solutions. The expansion broadens HLL's retail reach beyond its core generic medicines mandate.

Specialty HINDLABS and Advanced Diagnostics

Alongside the pharmacy push, HLL unveiled Specialty HINDLABS, a high-end diagnostics initiative targeting services such as genomics, Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS), and molecular diagnostics — areas that represent the frontier of personalised medicine in India. Notably, HLL's existing HINDLABS Reference Laboratory in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, has received accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP), a globally recognised benchmark in laboratory medicine. This accreditation lends credibility to the diagnostics scale-up at a time when quality standards in private labs remain under scrutiny.

Home Healthcare and Trauma Care Expansion

HLL Home Healthcare Services will deliver at-home medical support including skilled nursing care, post-operative assistance, physiotherapy and rehabilitation, elderly care, chronic disease management, diagnostics, and teleconsultation. This comes amid rising demand for home-based care driven by an ageing population and post-pandemic shifts in care preferences. In parallel, HLL announced a public-private partnership with the Odisha government to establish and operate a Trauma Care Centre at Panikoili in Jajpur district, to be developed into a comprehensive emergency care facility with phased expansion.

Leadership and Strategic Direction

The expansion was formally announced by HLL Chairperson and Managing Director Dr Anitha Thampi, with senior officials including Director, Marketing, Ajit N., Director, Finance, P. Remesh, and Director, Technical & Operations, Benny Joseph present at the event. The announcements collectively represent HLL's most ambitious diversification in recent years, extending its footprint across retail pharmacy, advanced diagnostics, home care, and critical trauma infrastructure. With operations spanning multiple states, HLL is positioning itself as an integrated public-sector counterweight to the rapidly consolidating private healthcare market in India.
