HM Shah Launches Modern Living Quarters for Troopers at Bengal and Tripura Borders

Agartala, Dec 20 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday held a virtual ceremony to launch advanced living accommodations for the border guarding troopers at the land ports located in Petrapole, West Bengal, and Agartala, as reported by officials.

A senior representative from the Land Ports Authority of India indicated that this initiative represents a major advancement in the welfare and operational capabilities of India's border security forces, including the BSF.

The land port situated in Petrapole, which borders Bangladesh, is recognized as India's largest land port and serves as a vital gateway for trade with the neighboring nation, significantly contributing to the economic growth of the area.

This port facilitates a substantial portion of the bilateral trade activities, enhancing the prosperity of both countries.

The official mentioned that the newly established accommodations for the border security personnel at Petrapole are expected to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of border security operations at this crucial trade hub.

Additionally, the land port at Agartala, strategically positioned along the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura, serves as an essential link for commerce and connectivity between the two nations.

The upgraded facilities at the port, which include the new accommodations, are anticipated to boost trade, optimize border management, and stimulate the regional economy.

According to the official, the new amenities at both ports were approved in December 2018, with a collective investment of about Rs 55 crore, specifically designed to improve the living conditions of the personnel in charge of border security.

At Petrapole, the accommodations cover an area of over 13,339 sqm, featuring an Officer Block, Subordinate Block, Jawan Block, and a dedicated Mahila Block for female units.

The facility in Agartala spans 8093.7 sqm and includes similar blocks tailored to meet the needs of the border security staff.

The Mahila Block is designed to house 8 female jawans, ensuring their privacy and comfort. The Officer Block, covering an area of 659 sqm, provides residential facilities for 5 officers.

The Subordinate Officer and Jawan Block, a four-story establishment, accommodates 16 subordinate officers and offers lodging for 128 jawans, complete with a dining area, kitchen, and a multipurpose hall.

The official inauguration of these facilities highlights the government’s dedication to providing modern and comfortable living spaces for the security forces who diligently safeguard the country’s borders.

The successful launch of the accommodations for the border guarding forces at both locations stands as a testament to the nation's commitment to enhancing the quality of life for its security personnel and underscores the strategic significance of a strong border management infrastructure in promoting trade and sustaining robust international relations, as stated by an official.
