Hyderabad Police Chief Expresses Regret Over Comments on National Media

Hyderabad, Dec 23 (NationPress) The Commissioner of Police, C.V. Anand, publicly expressed his regret on Monday for his remarks concerning national media's coverage of the tragic Sandhya Theatre stampede.

During a press interaction, the Police Commissioner acknowledged that he became agitated when faced with provocative inquiries regarding ongoing investigations.

Anand had claimed that the national media was compromised, a statement that drew considerable backlash from journalists.

“I sincerely apologize for my outburst when confronted with persistent challenging questions related to the ongoing investigations, and for making inappropriate generalizations about the national media,” Anand stated in a message on ‘X’.

“I regret allowing myself to be provoked; my response was inappropriate and I should have maintained my composure. I fully retract my earlier statements,” the Police Commissioner added.

The IPS officer lost his temper when reporters from various television channels continued to press him about the December 4 incident at Sandhya Theatre during the premiere of ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’, and the subsequent case against actor Allu Arjun.

“You still support this… I know the national media’s behavior. They are all compromised. Completely compromised. No shame. Compromised, I’m telling you,” Anand remarked to the reporters.

On Sunday, police released detailed CCTV footage of the incident at Sandhya Theatre, which resulted in the death of a woman and left her eight-year-old son in critical condition.

The Police Commissioner confirmed that investigations are ongoing in this case, and the police will seek legal advice on the next steps.

A case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been registered against the theatre management, Allu Arjun, and his team.

The actor was taken into custody by police on December 13 and was presented in a city court, which ordered him to judicial custody for 14 days. However, on that same day, the Telangana High Court granted him interim bail.

Allu Arjun, listed as accused number 11 in the case, was released from Chanchalguda Jail the following day.
