Hyderabad, April 9 (NationPress) The local police have urged all media outlets, online platforms, and individuals to avoid distributing any material that may reveal or hint at the identity of a trainee pilot who has reported a sexual assault by a previous flight instructor at a training facility in Hyderabad.

C.H. Sridhar, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the Malkajgiri Zone, indicated on Thursday that they have received information through the victim and her family about various unverified and misleading reports circulating regarding the sexual assault incident.

The DCP pointed out that the matter is currently under investigation, and all legal procedures are being adhered to. At this juncture, any type of speculation or unverified claims could hinder the investigation and cause undue stress.

The police reminded the public and media that according to Section 72 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (similar to Section 228A of the IPC), revealing a rape victim's identity, whether directly or indirectly, constitutes a punishable offense.

The Supreme Court's ruling in the case of Nipun Saxena vs Union of India (2018) prohibits any disclosure of details that might lead to identifying the victim, including familial information, residence, educational institutions, or workplaces.

It has also been stressed that even indirect mentions, such as the training institute, neighborhood, or family details that might reveal the victim's identity, should be strictly avoided.

The DCP has requested media organizations and digital platforms to refrain from sharing any material that could disclose or hint at the victim's identity, her family, or her educational/work affiliations.

He requested that any such content already posted or shared on digital platforms, including YouTube and other social media, be removed.

The Begumpet police have filed charges against a former flight instructor at an aviation training institute for rape, following accusations from a female trainee pilot who claimed he exploited her.

According to the victim's allegation, the instructor enticed her with promises of assistance in achieving high scores in her coursework in exchange for sexual favors. She asserted that the incident occurred last year.

In response to her complaint, the police initiated a case under Sections 64(2)(f) and 351(2) of the BNS and have begun their investigation.

The 30-year-old accused is currently believed to be in his home state of Kerala.

Point of View

It is imperative to uphold the dignity and privacy of individuals involved in sensitive cases. This incident not only raises concerns about legal compliance but also emphasizes the need for media responsibility in reporting.
