Kolkata, July 12 (NationPress) A second-year student from the prestigious Indian Institute of Management – Calcutta (IIM-C) has reportedly been a victim of rape in the boys' hostel of the institution.
The student lodged a complaint at the Haridevpur Police Station on Friday night, alleging that she was invited to a boy's hostel under the pretense of discussing job counselling, where she was offered pizza and cold drinks, leading to her falling unconscious.
"Upon regaining consciousness, she sensed that she had been sexually assaulted. She quickly exited the campus, got in touch with a friend, and proceeded to the local Haridevpur Police Station to file a complaint against a fellow student for allegedly raping her at the boys' hostel," as per the complaint.
The victim indicated that before losing consciousness, she attempted to fend off the accused, but was reportedly overpowered and assaulted.
In response to the complaint, police detained one student early Saturday morning for questioning.
Officials stated that a confirmation regarding the rape allegation will follow a medical examination of the victim.
In her complaint, the victim mentioned that despite wanting to register her visit at the boys' hostel, the accused did not permit her to do so.
The identity of the accused student remains undisclosed as the investigation is ongoing.
This incident bears similarities to a recent case at Kasba Law College, where a victim was allegedly lured to the union room under the guise of discussing a significant position within the students’ union.
In the IIM-C incident, the victim was called to the boys' hostel to discuss job counselling.
