Kolkata, July 12 (NationPress) A second-year student from the renowned Indian Institute of Management – Calcutta (IIM-C) has reportedly been sexually assaulted in the boys' hostel situated within the campus.
The student lodged a complaint of rape at the Haridevpur Police Station on Friday night, alleging that she was invited to the boys' hostel under the pretense of a discussion regarding job counselling, and was subsequently offered pizza and soft drinks, which led her to lose consciousness.
"Upon regaining her senses, she experienced a sense of being sexually violated. She quickly exited the campus, contacted a friend, and reported the incident at the local Haridevpur Police Station, accusing a fellow student of raping her in the boys' hostel," according to the filed complaint.
The victim reported that she attempted to resist the accused's advances before losing consciousness after being physically assaulted.
Following her complaint, police apprehended one student early on Saturday morning and are currently questioning him.
Authorities indicated that confirmation of rape will depend on the results of the victim's medical examination.
In her complaint, the victim noted that she wished to register her visit in the boys' hostel but was denied permission by the accused.
The police have yet to disclose the identity of the accused student, but a comprehensive investigation is underway.
Interestingly, this incident bears similarities to the recent rape case involving Kasba Law College, where the victim was allegedly lured to a union room for discussions about a prominent position in the student body.
In the IIM-C case, the victim was similarly invited to the boys' hostel for a discussion about job counselling.
