New Delhi, July 2 (NationPress) As the monsoon progresses through the nation, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) revealed on Wednesday that light to heavy rainfall is anticipated in Delhi and various other regions over the forthcoming week.
According to IMD scientist Akhil Shrivastava, who spoke to IANS, the national capital can look forward to sporadic showers in the upcoming days.
"The monsoon officially reached Delhi on June 29, bringing light showers along with it. Our predictions indicate that during the next week, Delhi may encounter rainfall ranging from light to heavy. There will also be intervals of partly cloudy skies, with potential thunderstorms and lightning," he stated.
Shrivastava noted that while rainfall is expected, it is likely to be relatively light in Delhi for most of the week.
Beyond the capital, the IMD has issued critical warnings for various states anticipating intense rainfall.
"Extremely heavy rainfall, surpassing 20 cm in a 24-hour period, is forecasted for eastern Rajasthan and the ghat regions of central Maharashtra," Shrivastava mentioned.
States like Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha are also under heavy rainfall advisories. In Gujarat, Konkan, and Goa, rainfall will be widespread, while Karnataka may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated localities today.
The hilly states are also on alert, with heavy to very heavy showers predicted for segments of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Eastern Uttar Pradesh is expected to receive substantial rainfall, leading to precautionary alerts.
Emphasizing the seriousness of the situation, Shrivastava detailed the alert levels: “A yellow alert has been issued for most areas of Uttar Pradesh. Eastern Rajasthan and central Maharashtra are under red alert due to the potential for extreme rainfall. Orange alerts have been activated in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Gujarat, Karnataka, and northeastern states like Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.
He urged residents in affected regions to stay updated and take necessary precautions as weather conditions evolve throughout the week.
