Immediate Resignation of Minister Duraimurugan Demanded by TN BJP Following Sudden Sathanur Dam Release

Chennai, Dec 4 (NationPress) Tamil Nadu BJP spokesperson and senior leader ANS Prasad has lambasted the DMK government for the abrupt release of water from the Sathanur Dam without any prior notice, which led to flooding and considerable loss of life and property in the northern districts.

Prasad has called for the immediate resignation of Water Resources Minister S. Duraimurugan, holding him accountable for the catastrophe.

In a statement made on Wednesday, the BJP leader characterized the incident as a blatant example of the DMK government’s administrative incompetence.

He stated that both Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and Minister Duraimurugan should bear full responsibility for what he referred to as an egregious lapse in governance.

According to Prasad, the unexpected release of water from the dam wreaked havoc in Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Viluppuram, and Cuddalore districts.

He alleged that the lack of a timely warning led to the displacement of numerous families, the destruction of livelihoods, and immense suffering. “The gross negligence and incompetence of the DMK government have caused this disaster,” Prasad stated.

“Minister Duraimurugan’s failure to provide advance notice is a clear dereliction of duty. His attempts to downplay the crisis amount to a betrayal of public trust,” he added.

Prasad also took issue with the minister for supposedly using his experience and expertise to mislead the public.

Making a comparison to the 2015 Chennai floods triggered by the sudden release of water from Chembarambakkam Lake, the BJP leader accused the DMK government of repeating past errors.

“Despite Minister Duraimurugan’s attempts to conceal the truth, the people of Tamil Nadu will uncover the facts,” Prasad said.

He asserted that the public demands transparency and accountability, calling for the minister’s immediate resignation.

The BJP leader cautioned that the DMK government would face repercussions for its negligence during the 2026 Assembly elections.

He expressed that the mishandling of the Sathanur Dam situation has raised serious concerns about the government’s capability to manage disasters effectively.

“The people of Tamil Nadu deserve transparency, accountability, and justice,” Prasad concluded. “The DMK government must ensure that those responsible for the devastating floods are held accountable.”
