Important Winter Session of Tripura Assembly Set to Commence Tomorrow

Agartala, Jan 9 (NationPress) The important winter session of the Tripura assembly is set to commence on Friday, during which a bill will be introduced to amend the current legislation to offer retirement benefits to all MLAs who have served for even a single day, as confirmed by officials on Thursday.
An official from the Assembly stated that on the initial day of the session, Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu will deliver his customary address to the House.
“In his address, the Governor will underscore the achievements and vision of the state government. He will also outline the roadmap of the government,” the official noted.
According to the proposed amendment bill to be presented during the session, it is suggested that any Assembly member who has merely taken the oath and served for a day as an MLA would be entitled to all retirement benefits, including pension and housing loans.
The official explained that following the last amendment in 2022 to the Salaries, Allowances, Pensions, and Other Benefits of Ministers, Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Leader of the Opposition, and Chief Whip under the MLA Act, an MLA would qualify for retirement benefits, including a pension, if they served as a member of the House for a minimum of four-and-a-half years.
An anonymous official informed IANS that the salary, allowances, pensions, and family pensions for Ministers, current MLAs, and former MLAs will be increased under the new bill.
Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath previously indicated that three significant bills, including the amendment bill revising the existing law to provide retirement benefits to MLAs, will be introduced during this session.
He mentioned that the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) had unanimously agreed in its meeting last week to conduct a three-day winter session starting Friday.
The Minister added that the session will encompass private member resolutions, the introduction and discussion of three bills, along with deliberations on various other issues.
