Ahmedabad, Sep 18 (NationPress) The Kanbha Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Ahmedabad is becoming an essential resource for local inhabitants, providing crucial medical services along with access to government health benefits through the Ayushman Bharat scheme. The centre has now improved its offerings, which include outpatient consultations, Ayushman card registration, and 108 emergency ambulance services.
Vatva Assembly MLA Babubhai Jadhav visited the health centre recently to assess the ongoing services and engage with patients. He expressed his contentment with the centre's operations and its significance in providing quality healthcare to rural communities.
The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY), initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and backed by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, is revolutionizing healthcare access. With an Ayushman Card, eligible individuals can receive up to Rs 5 lakh annually for secondary and tertiary care treatments, completely free of charge.
Patients visiting the Kanbha PHC not only obtain quality treatment but also receive guidance on how to leverage Ayushman card benefits. The registration and verification process takes place on-site, making it easier for individuals from economically disadvantaged backgrounds to enroll.
“The doctor thoroughly explained everything about the Ayushman Card and assisted me through the registration process,” said Rekha Ben Nagar, a patient who spoke to IANS.
“I received free treatment two months back, and I feel so much better now. I didn’t need to pay a single rupee.”
Another patient, Sunil, stated: "I experienced severe leg pain and required surgery. Thanks to the Ayushman Yojana, I had my operation here without any cost. I’m very grateful to Prime Minister Modi for introducing such a beneficial scheme."
Medical Officer Dr Sangeet Ben Patni reported that over 100 patients visit the OPD daily.
"We have 13 dedicated staff members, including doctors, supervisors, health workers, and lab technicians. The centre is committed to meeting all healthcare needs of our community. Patients are reaping the benefits of the Ayushman Bharat scheme," she added.
The 108-emergency ambulance service is also a vital part of the facility, providing quick transport and emergency care in urgent situations.
The Ayushman Bharat scheme, launched under the National Health Policy 2017, aims for Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It adopts a comprehensive approach to healthcare through two major components — Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) and Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY).
Introduced on September 23, 2018, in Ranchi, PM-JAY is recognized as the world’s largest health assurance initiative. It focuses on over 10.74 crore impoverished and vulnerable families, covering nearly 50 crore beneficiaries. Jointly funded by the Central and state Governments, the scheme relies on data from the 2011 Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC).
