Imphal, April 14 (NationPress) Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla stated on Monday that while the Indian National Army's (INA) role in Moirang was short-lived, its legacy continues to motivate countless individuals with its spirit of bravery and steadfast patriotism.

Governor Bhalla attended the 81st Anniversary of the flag hoisting ceremony at the INA martyr’s memorial complex located in the Bishnupur District of Manipur.

During the ceremony, he emphasized the INA's legacy, noting that its quest for independence stemmed from determined action rather than mere discussions, marking not just a military victory but a significant revival of India's quest for freedom.

“Although the INA’s time in Moirang was fleeting, its legacy endures, inspiring generations through courage, sacrifice, and unyielding patriotism,” Governor Bhalla remarked.

On this occasion, he paid floral tributes to the statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at the memorial and toured the INA museum.

The Governor expressed that commemorating one of the most pivotal moments in India’s independence struggle was a profound honor and a source of patriotic pride.

He reflected on the importance of Moirang as the location where the INA first raised the Indian Tricolour on liberated land, an act that epitomized resistance, hope, and the indomitable spirit of a nation striving for freedom.

This commemorative event was attended by notable figures including MLA Thongam Shanti Singh, Lt. General K. Himalay Singh (Retd.), Maj. General J.S. Nanda (Retd.), Maj. General S.S. Kartikeya, Brigadier Neeraj Sharma, and Deputy Inspector General, Assam Rifles (S), among others.

Moirang, situated in Manipur's Bishnupur district, holds a significant place in the narrative of India’s fight for freedom.

It was here, just 45 kilometers from Imphal, that the INA flag was first hoisted on April 14, 1944.

The INA museum, showcasing letters, photographs, rank badges, and other war memorabilia, serves as a reminder of the noble sacrifices made by INA soldiers under the inspiring leadership of Subhas Chandra Bose.
