On the previous day, India's External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar engaged with Bangladesh's High Commissioner to India, Riaz Hamidullah, in New Delhi, focusing on enhancing bilateral relations.
In a communication on X, EAM Jaishankar stated: "Met with High Commissioner Riaz Hamidullah of Bangladesh. Our conversation was centered on advancing our bilateral ties."
Earlier this month, the Indian High Commissioner conducted several discussions with ministers from the newly-formed Tarique Rahman-led Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) government, exploring avenues to boost bilateral cooperation.
The Indian High Commission in Dhaka reported that Verma met with the Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives Minister, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, to discuss various shared interests, which included enhancing collaboration on local governance and rural development.
Both parties agreed to fortify bilateral engagement in sectors such as the rural economy, agricultural cooperatives, and grassroots financial empowerment.
"The High Commissioner emphasized that India-Bangladesh relations are deeply rooted in people-to-people connections and expressed India's readiness to engage positively with Bangladesh to foster cooperation across all domains based on mutual interests and benefits," the High Commission noted.
Verma also met with the Minister of Liberation War Affairs, Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, reinforcing the profound historical ties between the two nations, grounded in shared sacrifices during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.
"They reiterated the necessity of collaborating on the foundation of mutual respect and trust to further enhance people-to-people connections between the two nations," the High Commission conveyed.
