New Delhi, April 16 (NationPress) India is leveraging advanced technology to transcend geographical boundaries and connect developing nations, stated India's former Ambassador to the EU and the UN, Manjeev Singh Puri, on Wednesday.

During a conversation with IANS at the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) conclave 2025 held here, Puri emphasized that India stands as the fifth-largest economy globally and is on the trajectory to become the third-largest.

"This initiative transcends mere trade; it is about creating a better world through green and modern technologies that connect continents and populations, promoting economic benefits on both sides," Puri remarked to IANS.

He also pointed out that Europe ranks among India’s major economic and trading partners.

The IMEC project, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during India’s G20 Presidency in 2023, is regarded as a strategic initiative in response to increasing global disruptions.

Director General of RIS, Professor Sachin Chaturvedi, mentioned, "Certain nations are manipulating supply chains to secure competitive advantages, adversely affecting India’s trade. IMEC is India’s strategic response to these challenges, aiming for stability."

"This initiative, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during India’s G20 presidency in 2023, is a strategic response to such challenges," he told IANS.

Experts perceive that IMEC is beyond just an infrastructure initiative; it represents a transformative vision. Professor Emeritus Dr Seshadri Chari from Savitribai Phule Pune University noted that IMEC could potentially connect over 100 ports across more than 80 countries, impacting around 80 percent of the global population.

"It links the world’s first and fourth largest economies, positioning India as a central hub in global trade," he explained to IANS.

Chari remarked that IMEC embodies a unique and transformative concept that can significantly alter trade dynamics between Asia and Europe.

The IMEC Conclave 2025 highlights India’s expanding role in shaping the future of international trade, connectivity, and economic collaborations.
