Mumbai, Aug 12 (NationPress) Union Minister of Ports and Shipping Sarbananda Sonawal stated on Tuesday that India and Singapore maintain a robust and diverse partnership grounded in mutual respect, shared values, and a unified vision for prosperity.
He noted that under the insightful leadership of PM Narendra Modi, our bilateral relations have broadened across various sectors.
During his virtual address at the Leaders’ Dialogue on Green & Digital Maritime Corridors, held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), the minister further remarked that the Bharat Mumbai Container Terminals (BMCT) at JNPA symbolizes our collective ambition to develop modern, world-class port infrastructure, showcasing the confidence that global partners like Singapore have in India’s growth narrative.
Welcoming Singapore's Deputy PM Gan Kim Yong and his delegation to the financial, commercial, and entertainment capital of Maharashtra, CM Devendra Fadnavis expressed that this visit will strengthen ties not only between India and Singapore but also between Maharashtra and Singapore.
Expressing gratitude to PSA and the Government of Singapore for establishing the advanced BMCT terminal, which enhances India's maritime capabilities, CM Fadnavis stated that it contributes to 50 percent of the container handling capacity of JNPA and significantly boosts India’s global trade.
“The collaboration between India and Singapore in maritime trade, infrastructure, digital technology, and logistics not only brings our economies closer but also paves the way for numerous collaborations in the future,” he added.
The Leaders’ Dialogue on Green and Digital Maritime Corridors took place today, serving as a prelude to the upcoming India Maritime Week 2025, scheduled to be held in Mumbai from October 27 to 31, 2025.
Shipping Secretary TK Ramachandran emphasized the importance of enhancing international cooperation and connectivity through maritime corridors, which facilitate trade, maritime governance, and regional collaboration.
JNPA CMD Unmesh Sharad Wagh, during his welcome address, discussed the crucial role that JNPA plays in advancing India’s Maritime Vision and how the Vadhavan Port is on track to become a vital component in transforming the Indian maritime landscape in the coming years.
