Mumbai, Aug 12 (NationPress) Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday requested Singapore's collaboration in the enhancement of the Vadhavan port located in the Palghar district of Maharashtra.
He expressed optimism that the Vadhavan Port initiative is the largest port endeavor in India, asserting that it will be completed punctually, thus positioning Maharashtra and India as a maritime superpower.
Moreover, he mentioned that this venture will provide a fresh direction for India's maritime infrastructure.
He voiced hopes for substantial MoUs to enhance the collaboration between the two nations, specifically from JNPA to Vadhavan Port.
Fadnavis indicated that the growing partnership and several MoUs between India and Singapore in maritime trade, infrastructure, digitalization, data centers, and logistics are fortifying economic connections, thus adding a new dimension to the relationship between Maharashtra and Singapore.
This address was made during the Green and Digital Maritime Corridors Leaders Dialogue, co-hosted by the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority representing the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and the Indian Ports Association at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA).
Fadnavis stated that the new PSA terminal at JNPA will be inaugurated shortly, and this cutting-edge facility will accommodate 50% of JNPA's container capacity, propelling India's global trade.
He remarked that this facility will further amplify India's maritime power. He extended special thanks to Singapore for its assistance in realizing this project.
Highlighting the collaboration between India and Singapore for establishing green and digital maritime corridors, the Chief Minister underscored the necessity for a sustainable maritime ecosystem.
The two nations are collaborating on innovative technologies, green fuels, and efficiency, with the East Sea Initiative alongside advancements in digital infrastructure, aimed at enhancing maritime service efficiency.
Referencing India's rich maritime legacy, CM Fadnavis highlighted the vision of the Chaul Empire and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Amrit Kaal Maritime Vision 2047, Maharashtra is formulating its own maritime vision with defined targets for 2029, 2035, and 2047. This initiative aims to significantly contribute to the evolution of India's maritime sector.
Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yeung stated that climate change is a pressing global concern necessitating collective action. Singapore and India are jointly crafting a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on developing a green and digital shipping corridor, which will greatly bolster a robust and efficient maritime sector.
Previously, an MoU was established between the government of Maharashtra and Manipal Health Enterprises Pvt Ltd & Temasek. This partnership intends to create a 350-bed multi-specialty hospital in Nagpur with a projected investment of up to Rs 700 crore, anticipated to generate about 3000 direct jobs.
Another MoU was inked between the Government of Maharashtra and CapitaLand Investment Limited, Singapore. This venture will facilitate proposed investments by CapitaLand and its affiliates in Maharashtra, with an overall investment projection of approximately Rs 19,200 crore expected to create around 60,000 direct jobs.
Additionally, an MoU was signed between the Government of Maharashtra and Mapletree Investments Pvt Ltd, Singapore. This agreement will involve an investment of Rs 3,000 crore and will provide 5,000 direct jobs in Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, and other industrial regions. Under this agreement, logistics and warehousing parks, industrial parks, and data centers will be established.
This collaboration will propel the development of Business Parks in Mumbai & Pune, Data Centres in Mumbai & Pune, and Logistics & Industrial Parks across Maharashtra.
