Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to flag off India's first hydrogen-powered train from Jind, Haryana, on 17 July, marking a landmark moment in the country's clean energy rail ambitions. The train will operate on the Jind–Sonipat corridor, making it the first hydrogen traction service on Indian Railways.

Ground Preparations Under Way

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini visited Jind on Sunday, 12 July to personally inspect the event venue at Eklavya Stadium. He reviewed the main 'pandal' layout, sector-wise seating, parking facilities, a dedicated media lounge, and security measures, directing officials to ensure no gaps remain before the Prime Minister's arrival.

After the inspection, CM Saini chaired a review meeting at the PWD Rest House with ministers, public representatives, and senior officials. The session focused on traffic management, deployment of CNG buses and electric vehicles, parking logistics, and crowd movement protocols.

What the Hydrogen Train Means for Haryana

The Jind–Sonipat hydrogen train service is being positioned as a dual achievement — a national first for Indian Railways and a showcase project for Haryana. Chief Minister Saini described the Prime Minister's visit as 'a matter of pride for the state,' calling on administrative officials, elected representatives, and party workers to coordinate closely to make the event 'historic and successful.'

Notably, hydrogen-powered rail is a global frontier technology. Countries including Germany and China have piloted hydrogen trains, but India's entry into this space — on a revenue corridor rather than a test track — would represent a significant step in decarbonising rail transport.

Development Projects Also on the Agenda

Beyond the train flag-off, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for development projects worth several crores spanning multiple districts of Haryana during the same visit. The projects are expected to directly benefit residents across the state, according to officials.

Security and Logistics Directives

Chief Minister Saini instructed all departments to maintain continuous monitoring of security, traffic, and parking arrangements in the run-up to 17 July. He emphasised that visitors attending the event must face no inconvenience, with particular attention to vehicle management around the stadium venue. All preparations are to be completed within the stipulated timeframe, officials confirmed.

With less than a week to go, Haryana's administrative machinery is on full alert as the state prepares to host what could become one of its most significant infrastructure milestones.
