PM Modi in Jind July 17: India's first hydrogen train, key Haryana projects
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Jind, Haryana on 17 July to flag off the country's first hydrogen-powered train and launch a series of infrastructure projects spanning railways, roads, healthcare, and tourism, state Cooperation Minister Arvind Sharma said on Tuesday, 14 July. The visit is being described as a landmark moment in Haryana's development trajectory under the dual leadership of the Centre and Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.
India's First Hydrogen Train
The centrepiece of the 17 July programme is the flagging off of India's first hydrogen-powered train, which will operate on the Jind-Gohana-Sonipat route. Sharma called the project 'a matter of pride for Haryana,' adding that it goes beyond a railway initiative to represent India's growing commitment to clean energy, environmental conservation, and green technology.
The minister said the hydrogen train is expected to strengthen Haryana's positioning as a hydrogen hub, signalling a broader industrial and ecological pivot for the state. The rally in Jind will itself be organised as an eco-friendly event, according to Sharma.
Healthcare Infrastructure Boost
Among the projects slated for inauguration are two medical colleges: Pandit Neki Ram Sharma Medical College in Bhiwani and Maharishi Chyawan Medical College in Narnaul. Sharma said both institutions would significantly strengthen healthcare access, particularly for residents in the southern regions of Haryana who have historically had limited access to modern medical facilities.
Roads and Connectivity Projects
Several major road and highway projects are set to be launched or dedicated during the visit. These include the Delhi-Katra Expressway Haryana section, the Ambala-Kala Amb Greenfield Four-Lane Corridor, the Jind-Gohana National Highway (NH-352A) Greenfield Corridor, the Hansi-Barwala Four-Lane Highway, and the Bikaner-Siwani-Sonipat Road Project.
Sharma said these corridors would reduce travel time, improve rural-urban connectivity, and serve as a foundation for industrial expansion and employment generation across the state.
Rail, Culture, and Urban Infrastructure
The Kurukshetra Elevated Railway Track Project is also on the agenda, which officials say will provide a permanent resolution to chronic traffic congestion in the city. A proposed Sikh Museum at Kurukshetra is expected to be announced, aimed at enhancing the region's religious, cultural, and tourism profile.
This comes amid a broader pattern of infrastructure-heavy political outreach by the Centre in poll-sensitive states, with Haryana having gone through assembly elections in late 2024. The simultaneous launch of projects across multiple sectors in a single visit underscores the scale of the programme planned for 17 July. Sharma said the day would be 'remembered as a golden chapter in Haryana's history.'
