Indore, July 11 (NationPress) Indore, recognized as the cleanest city in India, recently set a new Guinness World Record by planting 1.1 million saplings within a single day in July 2024. The city is primed to kick off the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' 2.0 initiative starting this Friday.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav will inaugurate this grand plantation campaign by planting a sapling at a park close to the cloth market on Keshar Bagh Road, as announced by Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya on Thursday.

The Minister stated that the Indore Municipal Corporation has designated five acres of land for this initiative, with a goal of planting a staggering 5.1 million saplings, involving citizens from diverse backgrounds.

On the inaugural day (July 11), they plan to plant 1,100 saplings.

Additionally, veteran BJP leader Vijayvargiya mentioned that Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, will also participate in the plantation drive when he visits Indore on July 12.

“Last year, we achieved a world record by planting the highest number of saplings in 24 hours. This year’s mega plantation drive is poised to commence on July 11. All citizens of Indore are encouraged to join us in our endeavor to enhance the city’s greenery,” stated Vijayvargiya, who serves as a BJP MLA representing the Indore Assembly constituency.

Remarkably, over 30,000 individuals, including more than 40 non-resident Indians (NRIs) from Indore, participated in last year’s record-breaking tree plantation event on Revati Range hillock along the Indore-Ujjain Road.

Noteworthy figures such as several BJP leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, also took part in the initiative at the Rewati firing range ground of the Border Security Force (BSF).

Numerous Bollywood actors and athletes from Indore and other regions in Madhya Pradesh were also part of the campaign.

A few months back, Minister Vijayvargiya shared a video from Revati Range, asserting that all 12.4 lakh saplings planted under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative are thriving.

He highlighted that the Indore Municipal Corporation is taking additional measures to safeguard these plants, including establishing water facilities, conducting regular gardening, and installing fencing.

Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he noted that the saplings planted under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative are on their way to becoming robust trees.

The residents of Indore set a world record by planting 12.4 lakh saplings in the Revati Range, a campaign launched by PM Modi on June 5, 2024.

As part of this initiative, nearly 1.4 billion trees were planted nationwide, with around 55 million in Madhya Pradesh.
