Garhwa (Jharkhand), March 18 (NationPress) Farmers in Jharkhand's Garhwa are revolutionizing their farming methods and benefiting from Central government initiatives designed to enhance their livelihoods. Through programs such as the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi and PM Kusum Yojana, these farmers are moving away from conventional practices and embracing modern agricultural techniques, leading to cost savings and increased productivity.
In BirBandha village, farmers are flourishing thanks to the advantages these schemes offer. With the assistance of the PM Kisan Kusum Yojana, many farmers now utilize solar-powered irrigation systems, which have drastically cut down their water expenses. Additionally, timely fund disbursement through PM Kisan Samman Nidhi has empowered them to invest in high-value crops such as strawberries, marigold flowers, and various vegetables. This financial support has proven to be transformative, enabling farmers to adopt more sustainable and lucrative practices.
IANS interviewed several beneficiaries who shared their appreciation for the government's backing.
Pritam, one of the recipients, stated: "We used to struggle with electricity shortages, but now, with solar energy, we are not only cutting energy costs but also lowering our overall expenses. We are implementing new farming techniques that are enhancing our crop quality."
Mahesh, another beneficiary, remarked: "The PM Kisan Samman Nidhi is incredibly beneficial. We get Rs 6,000 in three installments, which we use to purchase quality seeds. We’ve also adopted new methods and tools like mulching machines and drip irrigation, which have significantly boosted our yields."
The PM Kusum Yojana has been particularly influential, providing solar pumps to numerous farmers in the area. These pumps enable farmers to irrigate their fields at a minimal cost compared to traditional methods. Along with seeds, these subsidies are facilitating a transition to modern agriculture in Garhwa, ensuring long-term viability.
District Agriculture Technology Officer Ajay Kumar Sahu emphasized the importance of these programs. "The government implements several initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY), which aids farmers in saving over 50 percent of their irrigation water. Under the PM Kusum Yojana, farmers can receive grants covering up to 95-96 percent of the costs for solar pumps, and through the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, they receive Rs 6,000 to support their farming endeavors."
