Intense Cold Wave Engulfs Telangana

Hyderabad, Dec 16 (NationPress) Intense cold wave conditions have settled in various regions of Telangana, with minimum temperature plummeting sharply in several districts, including Greater Hyderabad, on Monday.
The average minimum temperature in the state was recorded at 11.2 degrees Celsius, which is 5.5 degrees below the normal.
According to the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), 27 out of 33 districts reported a minimum temperature below 10 degrees. Adilabad emerged as the coldest district, with an average temperature of 7.9 degrees, which is 6.7 degrees below normal. Bheempoor in Adilabad marked the coldest spot in the state, registering a minimum temperature of 6 degrees, while Bela in the same district recorded 6.3 degrees.
Zahirabad in Sangareddy noted a minimum temperature of 6.6 degrees, and Bantwaram in Vikarabad district was at 6.7 degrees. Ibrahimpatnam in Rangareddy district, close to Hyderabad, and Sirpur in Komaram Bheem Asifabad also reported 6.7 degrees.
Other districts including Siddipet, Kamareddy, Nirmal, Medak, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Nizamabad, Mancherial, Hanumakonda, Mulugu, Warangal, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mahabubnagar, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Narayanpet, Karimnagar, Nagarkurnool, Hyderabad, Jangaon, and Mahabubabad also recorded minimum temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius.
Several areas in Greater Hyderabad were also affected by these severe cold wave conditions. Moulali and HCU areas faced the lowest temperature of 7.1 degrees, while BHEL recorded 7.4 degrees, and Rajendranagar noted 8.2 degrees. Gachibowli also felt the winter chill with temperatures dropping to 9.3 degrees.
West Marredpally reported a minimum temperature of 9.9 degrees. Most regions noted minimum temperatures ranging between 10 and 14 degrees.
Meteorologists from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS) stated that the Hyderabad district had an average temperature of 14.9 degrees, which is four degrees below normal. Roads in several affected districts appeared deserted in the evening, and vehicular traffic was minimal in the morning, with residents staying indoors until 9-10 a.m. School children and commuters faced difficulties due to the cold. In many areas, residents lit bonfires to combat the winter chill.
The health department has already issued advisories urging residents to take necessary precautions. A general health advisory has also been released to safeguard against seasonal flu. With the IMD predicting a further drop in low temperatures, health authorities have cautioned that this may lead to an increase in acute respiratory infections such as seasonal flu/influenza.
