Hyderabad, Jan 11 (NationPress) Telangana is currently experiencing severe cold wave conditions, with temperatures in certain areas falling below 10 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that Adilabad marked the lowest temperature of 7.7 degrees Celsius on Sunday. Kohir in the Sangareddy district recorded a minimum of 7.9 degrees Celsius.
The temperature dipped to 9.2 degrees Celsius in Patancheru near Hyderabad, while Rajendra Nagar and Hayath Nagar on the outskirts noted minimum temperatures of 10.5 and 12.5 degrees Celsius respectively.
Notably, the minimum temperature in Adilabad, Medak, and Patancheru was significantly below normal, with figures ranging from 3.1 to 5 degrees Celsius lower than average.
Areas like Hanamkonda, Hyderabad, Nalgonda, Nizamabad, Ramagundam, and Rajendra Nagar recorded temperatures that were 1.6 to 3 degrees below the normal range.
A total of 12 districts reported temperatures dropping below 10 degrees Celsius, with eight other districts experiencing temperatures between 10.1 and 11 degrees Celsius, and the rest ranging from 11.1 to 14 degrees Celsius.
The cold winds are causing considerable discomfort among residents, with chilly conditions persisting from night until 11 AM.
The biting winds are particularly felt between 7 AM and 11 AM and again from 5 PM to 7 PM.
Individuals traveling to their hometowns for the Sankranti festival are encountering challenges. Thousands of families making their way from Hyderabad to various locations within Telangana and neighboring Andhra Pradesh are struggling against the cold.
The IMD forecasts that these cold conditions will continue for the next three days, attributed to lower-level winds originating from the east and southeast.
During this period, temperatures are expected to hover between 11 and 15 degrees Celsius.
Notably, winter 2025 is shaping up to be one of the coldest and most extended seasons that Telangana has experienced over the past decade. December recorded an unusually high number of cold-wave days.
The state experienced 18 cold-wave days in December 2025, a stark increase from just two days in December 2024, marking the highest count in the last ten years. The month also witnessed two severe cold waves.
This time, not only the northern districts such as Adilabad, known for their low temperatures, but also Central Telangana districts like Sangareddy and Medak, along with parts of western Hyderabad, faced prolonged low temperatures.
