Jammu: Firearm Retailer Closed Due to License Non-Renewal

Jammu, Dec 7 (NationPress) On Saturday, a firearm retailer was closed by officials for not renewing its trade license in Jammu city of J&K.
According to officials, the closure of the shop was a result of its failure to renew the trade license as authorities had imposed a deadline for firearm license holders to return any excess weapons within a week.
The owner of the shop located in the Shiv Nagar area, Amarnath Bhargav, stated that he did not receive any prior notice from the district administration before the closure occurred.
Bhargav claimed he had submitted an application for the renewal of his trade license after fulfilling all necessary requirements, yet instead of renewing it, authorities sealed his shop without notification.
This shop owner has been in the business for the past 45 years.
The District Magistrate of Jammu had instructed all firearm license holders to adhere to the rules set forth by the Arms Amendment Act 2019. This amended legislation prohibits individuals from possessing more than two firearms. License holders found with more than two firearms are required to surrender their extra weapons within one week.
“License holders are directed to deposit their surplus firearms at the nearest police station or authorized unit armory, particularly for members of the armed forces. Upon surrender, they must ensure their licenses are correctly endorsed to prevent cancellation and further legal action under the Arms Act,” states the order.
During elections for the Lok Sabha, assembly, Panchayat, or urban local bodies, all authorized firearm license holders are mandated to deposit their weapons at their local police station and obtain a receipt.
Once the elections conclude, firearm holders can present their receipts at the respective police stations to reclaim their weapons.
