Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Dec 8 (NationPress) A video featuring piles of currency notes being counted as donations for the intended Babri Mosque in Beldanga, located in Murshidabad district, has ignited considerable interest after the suspended Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir shared it on his social media account.
The video has quickly gained traction, leading to renewed discussions regarding the volume and origin of the funds gathered.
The lawmaker representing the Bharatpur constituency hinted at the potential launch of his new political party on December 22.
On Monday, Kabir revealed that donations had amounted to 11 trunks filled with cash, collected from local inhabitants since the foundation stone for the mosque was laid on Saturday.
"The precise value of the cash donations collected is still being determined," he stated.
He also mentioned that online donations have been received, with approximately Rs 93 lakh garnered through a QR code posted on his social media.
However, Kabir refrained from revealing details about an anonymous donor who has reportedly committed Rs 80 crore to the initiative. The individual is described as a Muslim businessman with an annual revenue exceeding Rs 4,000 crore. The lack of disclosure regarding the donor's identity and origin has raised additional inquiries.
He reiterated that the estimated budget for the mosque project is Rs 300 crore, aiming to recreate the original structure that was demolished on December 6, 1992.
"The complex will also feature a school and a hospital," he stated.
The TMC dissident legislator is reportedly gearing up to announce his new political entity on December 22. He plans to unveil the list of office bearers on that date. Although he previously indicated he would resign from his Assembly seat prior to the launch, he changed his stance on Sunday.
He announced he would postpone his resignation, adding another layer of uncertainty to the ongoing developments.
