Kolkata, Dec 9 (NationPress) Bharatpur MLA Humayun Kabir has filed a petition with the Calcutta High Court for security protection, citing a threat to his life.
The Trinamool Congress recently suspended Kabir from the party, allegedly for inciting communal discord regarding the proposed mosque at Beldanga.
Kabir asserted that he has been receiving threats due to his role in organizing the proposed Babri Mosque in Murshidabad district, which parallels the contentious structure in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, demolished on December 6, 1992.
“I have been receiving threatening calls since December 6 of this year, when the foundation stone for the mosque in Beldanga was laid. Although the Union Government offered me a security detail, I declined,” Kabir stated.
He elaborated on his refusal to accept the federal government's security proposal.
“The ruling Trinamool Congress leaders are making unfounded accusations that the BJP is backing my initiative to establish the Babri Mosque at Beldanga. If I had accepted the security from the Centre, the Trinamool Congress would have intensified their negative campaigns against me. Therefore, I have turned to the Calcutta High Court. I will comply with the security arrangements mandated by the court,” Kabir explained.
This rebel legislator from the Trinamool Congress is reportedly gearing up to unveil his new political party on December 22. He plans to announce the list of office bearers on that very day. While Kabir previously indicated he would resign from his Assembly seat prior to the official launch, he changed his mind on Sunday.
He stated that he would postpone his resignation for now, adding a layer of uncertainty to the ongoing developments.
Kabir has faced reprimands from the Trinamool Congress leadership multiple times for purportedly engaging in anti-party activities.
