Chhindwara, May 21 (NationPress) Veteran Congress leader Kamal Nath addressed a letter to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Wednesday, urging him to focus on the alarming issue of Tribal land being seized by land mafias in Chhindwara and Pandhurna districts.
The former Chief Minister highlighted that the agricultural lands belonging to the Tribals are being acquired and exploited for commercial activities. He noted that since Tribal land cannot be legally sold to non-Tribals, the registries of these lands are fraudulently done in the names of the Tribals, while the actual control is transferred to the land mafias.
“There exists a robust network of land mafias operating in the Tribal-populated districts of Chhindwara and Pandhurna. The agricultural lands of Tribals are being misappropriated for commercial gains, which poses a serious threat and infringes on the rights of the Tribals,” Kamal Nath stated.
Representing the Lok Sabha seat nine times and currently serving as an MLA for the Chhindwara assembly seat, Kamal Nath criticized the local administration for its inaction against these land mafias.
He pointed out that the Tribal communities, through their cultural and social organizations, have consistently raised their concerns, yet the local authorities appear to ignore them.
“Tribal lands are being acquired en masse and misused. Sale agreements are made in the name of Tribals, but in reality, these contracts do not serve the interests of the Tribal people. The government must take urgent action regarding this critical issue,” his letter further stated.
Emphasizing the various legal provisions designed to protect Tribal rights, the former Chief Minister called for immediate government intervention.
“I urge your attention, Mohan Yadav, on this critical matter. I request you to initiate an investigation and enforce stringent actions against the land mafias. Furthermore, I implore that all illegally transferred Tribal lands be returned to their rightful owners,” the letter concluded.
