Bengaluru, May 9 (NationPress) A group of leaders from the Karnataka BJP convened with Governor Thawarchand Gehlot at Raj Bhavan on Friday, expressing their concerns over the Congress-led state government's lack of seriousness regarding the deportation of Pakistani nationals as mandated by the Central Government.

The delegation presented a memorandum addressing this pressing issue to the Governor.

After the meeting, BJP State President B.Y. Vijayendra stated, “In light of the Pahalgam terror attack, the Central government issued explicit directives to all states to identify and deport Pakistani nationals within a 48-hour timeframe. Unfortunately, the Congress government in Karnataka has demonstrated a lack of urgency in this matter.”

The BJP has initiated a signature campaign advocating for immediate deportation, reportedly gathering over 60,000 signatures thus far, according to Vijayendra. “We have formally submitted our appeal to both the Deputy Commissioner and the Governor,” he remarked.

“We conveyed to the Governor that this issue pertains to national security. With Operation Sindoor currently in progress, it is imperative for the state government to act decisively. We have urged the Governor to direct the Congress-led government to deport all Pakistani nationals residing in Karnataka without hesitation,” Vijayendra emphasized.

The memorandum stated, “This correspondence aims to draw urgent attention to a matter of national security and public sentiment. On April 22, a horrific terrorist attack occurred in Pahalgam, leading to the tragic deaths of 26 innocent Hindu tourists. This attack has sent shockwaves throughout the nation and has been widely attributed to terrorist factions trained and supported by Pakistan. In response to this brutal act of terrorism, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has promptly undertaken robust measures to counter the threat and safeguard national security. Among these actions, the Central government has reportedly instructed all Pakistani nationals living in India to vacate the country within 48 hours.”

“It has also been communicated that all state governments must promptly and unconditionally enforce this directive. However, we have observed that the Karnataka state government has yet to take any meaningful action in this regard, despite the explicit mandate from the Centre,” the memorandum indicated.

The BJP called upon the Governor to provide immediate instructions to the Karnataka state government to comply with the Central directive concerning deportations and to release data regarding the number of Pakistani nationals deported and currently residing in the state.

The party also demanded that the Governor ensure rigorous implementation and oversight of these directives in the interest of national security and public order. “Acknowledge the profound distress and condemnation expressed by Indian citizens of all backgrounds regarding the Pakistan-sponsored attack and act correspondingly to reflect the nation's resolve. The government’s swift and decisive actions on this issue will reinforce its commitment to safeguarding its citizens and upholding the sovereignty of our nation,” the submission concluded.

The delegation included prominent figures such as Leaders of the Opposition R. Ashoka, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, BJP State Cell Coordinator S. Dattatri, and others.

Point of View

It is crucial for state governments to adhere to directives issued by the Center. The Karnataka BJP's appeal to Governor Gehlot reflects a broader concern among citizens about safety and accountability. It is essential to balance political dynamics with the imperative of protecting public safety and maintaining national integrity.
