Karnataka: Three Individuals Granted Bail in Udupi Abduction and Assault Case

Udupi, Dec 6 (NationPress) A district court here on Friday granted bail to three individuals charged in the alleged abduction and assault case of a Hindu woman. The allegations state that the accused had drugged and assaulted the victim following her abduction.
An incident involving an Instagram acquaintance abducting and assaulting a 21-year-old woman surfaced on August 24 from Karkala town in Udupi District. This case took on a communal aspect since the primary accused is a Muslim.
The event occurred within the jurisdiction of Karkala Town police station.
The police apprehended three individuals connected to the case, and the victim was subsequently hospitalized.
The situation escalated as Hindu organizations alleged that the victim was gang-raped and called for severe repercussions against the accused.
Nevertheless, the police dismissed the possibility of gang rape and cautioned against the spread of misinformation.
The accused have been named as Altaf (34), Savio Richard Quadros (35), and Abhay (23) -- all residents of Karkala town.
The victim and the accused had been Instagram friends for three months, and all parties were from the same locality. Altaf, the woman’s Instagram friend, had invited the victim to a specific location near her workplace.
Upon the victim's arrival at that location, she was abducted.
The victim alleged that she was compelled to consume a beverage infused with sedative agents, after which the accused assaulted her.
Following the crime, the accused abandoned the victim at her residence.
The case was registered under Sections 135, 64, 3(5) of the BNS Act.
Invoking the concept of 'Love Jihad', the Karnataka BJP has claimed that there is a rise in violence against Hindu women and urged state authorities to take stringent measures in such instances.
Expressing apprehension over the rising incidents of violence and assault against women, BJP State General Secretary and MLA V. Sunil Kumar stated that these actions appear to be premeditated.
He highlighted that the recurrence of such acts is concerning.
He further indicated that the drugs were procured and administered to the victim, leading to her abduction and victimization.
“This is not merely the act of an isolated individual but shows signs of a premeditated conspiracy,” he remarked.
He expressed sorrow over the fact that young women frequently fall prey to enticing situations, resulting in tragic outcomes, which poses a significant concern for society.
He pledged to intensify the battle against 'Love Jihad.'
Additionally, Giriraju Jagadabi (31) from Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh and John Noronha (30) from Shankarapura in Kapu taluk of Udupi were also detained in relation to the case.
