Udupi (Karnataka), Sep 12 (NationPress) In a disturbing incident, a young man reportedly attacked a woman on her birthday after she declined his marriage proposal in the Udupi district of Karnataka, according to police reports on Friday.
The occurrence took place in Kokkarne village, situated near Brahmavar town, on Thursday.
The 24-year-old victim, Rachita Poojari, is currently in critical condition and is receiving treatment at Manipal KMC Hospital. The suspect has been named as Karthik, who lived in close proximity to her residence. He allegedly attempted to slit her throat after stabbing her in the chest.
Initial investigations indicate that the attack stemmed from her family's refusal to accept his marriage proposal. The victim is fighting for her life in the hospital.
The jilted lover ambushed Rachita as she was heading to work and unexpectedly assaulted her with a knife.
The authorities noted that Rachita and Karthik had been involved in a relationship for several years. Karthik had set a date for their marriage and was pressuring her to comply. However, due to her family's disapproval, they did not grant their consent.
After discussing the situation with her parents, Rachita blocked Karthik's number for two weeks. Infuriated by this action, Karthik confronted her under the guise of wishing her on her birthday, only to repeat his marriage proposal. When she firmly declined, he stabbed her.
Authorities are continuing their investigation.
