Vijayanagara, May 19 (NationPress) The Karnataka government is preparing for a grand celebration to mark its two-year anniversary in office by issuing land ownership records to more than 1 crore citizens.
The significant event, titled 'Sadhana Samavesha', will occur in Hospet, located in the Vijayanagara district of North Karnataka, on Tuesday, May 20.
Additionally, a statue honoring former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi will be unveiled. Notable attendees will include the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.
After assessing the arrangements for the forthcoming progress convention in Hosapet, Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar stated, “The state government is not simply commemorating its two years in office. With the 'Land Guarantee' scheme, we are striving to fulfill our commitment to the people by distributing land ownership documents to over one crore citizens.”
Shivakumar mentioned that Opposition MLAs have been invited as a gesture of respect, and the Chief Minister has personally reached out to opposition leaders. A statue of Indira Gandhi, erected by the district’s in-charge minister, will be unveiled at this historic site.
“Every person desires to own the land they inhabit. For years, many individuals from Scheduled Castes, backward classes, and landless families have constructed homes on unregistered land and have encountered significant challenges. Our government is providing a solution for them. The previous BJP government had initiated a similar program in Kalaburagi, promising land documents after a ₹20 crore expenditure, but it failed due to poor planning,” he asserted.
Shivakumar confirmed that land under revenue or private ownership, up to 4,000 square feet, where individuals have lived for years, is now under government management. The Tehsildar will become the legal owner, and the land will be transferred to residents at no cost through the sub-registrar's office.
“A total of 1.11 crore property records have been prepared, and the designated Tehsildars will handle their distribution. This land cannot be sold for 15 years post-registration. The Tehsildars will ensure property registration and ownership transfer to beneficiaries. Accounts will also be updated in collaboration with the PDO department, and necessary fees have been waived,” Shivakumar revealed.
Vijayanagara has been declared free of land disputes, with 79,000 farmers issued podi (land survey) records. This initiative represents a new model for the entire nation. Our government is not merely organizing events to celebrate two years, he added.
