Bengaluru, Aug 20 (NationPress) Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is set to announce significant updates regarding internal reservation for the 101 sub-castes within the Scheduled Castes community during the Karnataka Assembly session on Wednesday.
The state cabinet convened a special meeting on Tuesday night to review the report from Justice H.N. Nagamohan Das concerning internal reservation. Sources indicate that a consensus was reached on the quota allocation within the Scheduled Caste (SC) community.
Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs H.K. Patil expressed satisfaction post-meeting, stating, "All leaders emerged from the meeting with a sense of contentment. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is expected to disclose the government's decision during the assembly session on Wednesday. Ministers K.H. Muniyappa, H.C. Mahadevappa, Shivaraj Tangadgi, and G. Parameshwara shared in this positive sentiment."
Food Minister K.H. Muniyappa remarked, "We cannot issue media statements during the session, but Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will provide a comprehensive statement on Wednesday. Every sub-caste within the Scheduled Caste community has received social justice, ensuring that no group is left disadvantaged."
Minister for Kannada and Culture Shivaraj Tangadgi emphasized, "This cabinet meeting has made a historic decision. Internal reservation has been organized by categorizing sub-castes into three groups: right, left, and others. The decision was made with unanimous consent, ensuring all parties are satisfied."
A faction led by former Minister Anjaneya honored Chief Minister Siddaramaiah with garlands and sweets outside the Vidhana Soudha following the meeting. However, another group from the Alemari community voiced their discontent, protesting against the Congress-led government for their community's classification in a category designated for just 5 percent reservation.
Previously, the Karnataka BJP criticized the Congress-led government regarding the purportedly flawed internal survey related to internal reservation. They articulated their concerns on social media, stating, "The caste census of the SC community in Karnataka represents another misuse of taxpayer funds. The 'Lottery CM' seems to have instructed his team to affix 'survey done' stickers on doors without conducting proper visits, even marking vacant houses as completed."
The JD(S) also lambasted the state government, declaring on X, "This is a sham survey by the Dalit-oppressive Congress-led Karnataka government. Both Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar profess to uplift Scheduled Castes—how can this survey be credible when notices are placed on homes without engaging with the residents?"
The Karnataka BJP continues to call for the immediate execution of internal reservation in the state.
