Srinagar, Jan 24 (NationPress) The Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, Anshul Garg, announced on Saturday that both road connectivity and electricity, which were interrupted due to recent snowfall in the Valley, will be reinstated by this evening.
In anticipation of the Republic Day festivities, Divisional Commissioner Anshul Garg, alongside Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V.K. Birdi, visited Balidan Stambh located at Pratap Park in the Residency Road area of the city. There, they observed the full dress rehearsal and honored the martyrs with floral tributes.
During a press conference, Anshul Garg described the event as significant, noting that extensive preparations have been put in place for the annual Republic Day celebrations.
He stated that contingents from security forces, schools, and various departments have been practicing diligently for the past month to ensure the events run smoothly.
Despite the adverse weather conditions with heavy rain and snowfall over the last two days, teams worked around the clock to prepare the stadium and other venues. He urged the people of Srinagar to participate in the Republic Day function, as they do every year, to witness the celebrations.
In terms of weather-related damages, the Divisional Commissioner mentioned that most regions of the Valley, aside from Srinagar, experienced snowfall, with wind speeds exceeding 150 km/h in some areas, causing damage in certain locations.
He added that restoration efforts commenced promptly, and the power supply is being reinstated swiftly, with remaining stations expected to be operational shortly.
Furthermore, he mentioned that weather conditions have notably improved since yesterday, with both airport and train services having returned to normal.
Road clearance operations are also progressing, with approximately 15,000 km of roads out of a total of 20,000 km already cleared.
The remaining portions are being cleared with the assistance of the NDRF and other agencies.
The Divisional Commissioner stated that following directives from the Chief Minister, the objective is to finalize restoration and snow clearance work by this evening to ensure normalcy throughout the Valley.
