Kejriwal's 'Faansi Ghar' Claims Dismissed as Insulting Martyrs: Delhi Assembly Privileges Head
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 6 (NationPress) - The head of the Delhi Assembly's Privileges Committee, Pradyuman Singh Rajput, stated on Friday that Arvind Kejriwal, the former Chief Minister, along with other leaders from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), failed to provide any credible evidence regarding their assertions about the supposed existence of a 'Faansi Ghar' (gallows) within the Legislature's grounds.
"By making these unfounded allegations about a 'Faansi Ghar' and lacking any historical documentation, they have not only deceived the public but have also disrespected the legacy of our martyrs. The Committee shall now collectively consider the next steps based on today's recorded statements," Rajput remarked following a significant meeting of the Committee.
He also noted the absence of former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia from the meeting, despite multiple chances to articulate his position on this delicate matter.
Rajput confirmed that AAP's convenor Kejriwal, ex-Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel, and former Deputy Speaker Rakhi Birla attended the Privileges Committee session and documented their perspectives concerning the legitimacy of the 'Faansi Ghar', which was inaugurated on August 9, 2022, at the Legislative Assembly.
The Privileges Committee is also made up of MLAs Surya Prakash Khatri, Abhay Kumar Verma, Ajay Kumar Mahawar, Satish Upadhyay, Neeraj Basoya, Ravi Kant, Ram Singh Netaji, and Surender Kumar.
Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta commented that misleading narratives were propagated by Kejriwal and his associates.
The Speaker underscored that deceptive information regarding the Delhi Legislative Assembly, particularly concerning the alleged 'Faansi Ghar' and its association with freedom fighters, has been utilized to mislead the public about governance and educational matters.
Gupta emphasized that the issue was formally raised and sent for thorough investigation by the Committee of Privileges.
He added that despite being summoned, the relevant individuals had previously failed to attend several meetings.
A clear conclusion has emerged that the committee will report on, indicating that there has been a contempt of the House and a breach of privilege due to their repeated non-compliance with the Committee's summons.
The Assembly Speaker condemned the remarks made against the committee and the Constitution as unacceptable and deplorable.
Speaker Gupta asserted that this situation necessitates a clear and thoughtful response from the relevant authorities.
He remarked that if the historical authenticity of the 'Faansi Ghar' is not substantiated, it is essential to handle the matter with openness and factual precision.
"Speaker Gupta highlighted that this issue raises significant questions regarding accuracy and public accountability, requiring comprehensive clarification and careful scrutiny," a statement concluded.
