Thiruvananthapuram, May 17 (NationPress) Kerala's Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated on Saturday that the state is devoted to ensuring that scientific and technological advancements are grounded in humanitarian principles.
This statement was made during the inaugural address at a special interaction session with professionals, conducted at the members' lounge within the State Legislative Assembly complex.
This unique meeting with invited experts is a part of the fourth anniversary celebration of the second Pinarayi Vijayan government.
As part of the celebrations, he has been visiting all 14 districts across the state.
Saturday’s gathering was organized under the theme ‘Professional Connect’ by the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE), attracting around 600 professionals from various fields.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the state government is determined to enhance its support for scientific research and is actively seeking public-private collaborations in this domain.
“The Union Government has drastically reduced funding for scientific research. This is regrettable, as research is vital not only for creating new knowledge but also for societal advancement,” remarked Vijayan, expressing his concerns about the increasing influence of superstition in society.
“It is concerning that even individuals in constitutional roles are endorsing unscientific beliefs. We have observed unscientific assertions being made even at platforms like the Indian Science Congress. In this context, professionals need to intervene and raise public awareness against such misinformation,” added Vijayan.
“Nava Kerala is not a far-off vision – it is something we are diligently striving to achieve here and now,” the Chief Minister concluded. Dr. V.K. Ramachandran, Vice Chairman of the State Planning Board, who delivered the keynote address, remarked that no other state in India facilitates public engagement in policymaking in this manner.
The insights and recommendations raised during the discussion will be compiled into a report to be submitted to the state government for further action.
