Bhopal, July 2 (NationPress) “For a century, my family has been raising its banner against the Congress,” stated Hemant Khandelwal as he officially took the helm as the new president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Madhya Pradesh. His remarks, rich in tradition and resistance, set an inspiring tone for a leadership change that combines generational legacy with organizational rigor.
Khandelwal was elected unopposed and addressed a large audience of party members and senior leaders at the BJP’s state headquarters in Bhopal. He reminisced about his grandfather’s victory over the Congress in 1930, which led to the formation of the “Gareeb Dal” and his election as president of the Nagar Palika. His granduncle, G.D. Khandelwal, served as a minister, while his father, Vijay Kumar Khandelwal, was a four-time Member of Parliament and BJP treasurer for over ten years.
“I don’t claim any extraordinary qualifications,” he said modestly.
“I am just an ordinary karyakarta. This is the BJP — a party that allocates responsibilities based on merit and commitment,” he emphasized.
He highlighted the party’s unity, asserting, “Our party exhibits discipline. Major elections occur, and all prominent figures submit the same nomination. I dare the Congress — conduct your ward elections with this level of solidarity, and we will acknowledge you.”
The gathering featured a strong lineup of BJP leaders, including Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, Union Ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Narendra Singh Tomar, Deputy Chief Ministers Rajendra Shukla and Jagdish Devda, along with senior figures Kailash Vijayvargiya and Narottam Mishra.
Their attendance emphasized strong support for Khandelwal’s leadership and the significance of the occasion.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who endorsed Khandelwal for the position, praised the party’s tradition of democratic consensus and ideological clarity, stating, “This is not merely a leadership change — it reaffirms our principles.”
“Hemantji’s selection embodies the BJP’s dedication to disciplined organization and grassroots empowerment,” he added.
After 1,964 days of leadership, Khajuraho MP V.D. Sharma handed over the leadership to Khandelwal, marking a pivotal shift in the party’s state dynamics.
With both the chief minister and the new party president being sitting MLAs with strong RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) backgrounds, the BJP in Madhya Pradesh is set for enhanced coordination between government and organization.
Khandelwal’s rise is also perceived as an acknowledgment of the Vaishya community and a reaffirmation of the BJP’s grassroots principles.
As the party prepares for upcoming electoral challenges, his leadership is expected to concentrate on cadre development, ideological strengthening, and enhancing the BJP’s connection with the citizens of Madhya Pradesh.
