Kochi, April 23 (NationPress) More than 20 hours after 68-year-old Ramachandran was tragically shot while vacationing in Kashmir's Pahalgam, his wife remains oblivious to his demise.
Congress legislator T. Siddique, currently in Kashmir with a delegation of Kerala lawmakers, spoke to the media via phone on Wednesday. He mentioned that he had spoken with Aarti Menon, Ramachandran's daughter.
"Aarti informed us that her mother has not yet been told of his death. She has a heart condition, and the family has only notified her that he suffered injuries and is being airlifted to Kochi for further care," Siddique stated.
He added that all members of the delegation met with Aarti to express their condolences. "Ramachandran's body will soon be airlifted to Delhi. Aarti, along with her two children and her mother, will be on the same flight," Siddique explained.
"From Delhi, the body will be sent to Kochi, where it is anticipated to arrive by 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday," he continued.
Back in Kochi, friends and family at Ramachandran's home are in disbelief.
"They had embarked on a brief holiday to Kashmir on Monday. Initially, we heard that a Malayalee named Menon was among the deceased, and later we discovered it was our dear Ramachandran. We are still struggling to process this news. We have known each other for decades," said Jayalekshmi, a neighbor.
Ramachandran, a former non-resident Indian who spent many years in the Middle East, had returned to settle in Kochi five years ago.
Aarti and her children, residing abroad, had come earlier this month for a brief vacation to spend time with her parents when this tragedy occurred.
Union Minister Amit Shah, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and LG Manoj Sinha paid tributes on Wednesday to those who lost their lives in the Pahalgam terror attack.
