Kolkata Metro Steps Up Security Measures for New Year's Eve Celebrations

Kolkata, Dec 31 (NationPress) The Metro Railway in Kolkata has significantly increased its security measures to ensure peace during the bustling New Year's Eve. The Metro is set to introduce six extra services on the heavily trafficked Blue Line route (connecting New Garia and Dakshineswar) to accommodate the influx of celebrators.
This enhancement in security is being executed in partnership with the Kolkata Police, who will deploy additional personnel to prevent any unwanted incidents on New Year's Eve.
"Security will be intensified at key stations including Esplanade, Park Street, Maidan, Rabindra Sadan, Dum Dum, and Dakshineswar on New Year's Eve. These locations are anticipated to see the highest volume of passengers. Sufficient forces will also be stationed at other stations. In addition to monitoring the stations, Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel will be present on trains to ensure the safety of all commuters. Anti-sabotage inspections will be conducted using sniffer dogs and advanced equipment," stated a senior Metro official.
Areas like Park Street in Kolkata transform into lively party hubs during New Year's Eve, attracting hundreds of thousands of revelers who enjoy the festivities late into the night. Many of these party-goers include women and children, who prefer to take the Metro for their return journey. The Metro has committed to ensuring that no incidents disrupt the celebrations within its facilities.
"A sufficient number of women RPF officers will be stationed at Park Street station to provide safety and security for women and children. Specialized teams, consisting of a sub-inspector or assistant sub-inspector along with four staff members (including two women), will be positioned at Park Street, Maidan, and Esplanade stations on New Year's Eve. These teams will be prepared to handle any emergencies. To monitor the situation in real-time, adequate personnel will be assigned to the Central Control of the North-South Metro (Blue Line). Extensive CCTV surveillance will be implemented to ensure the safety and security of passengers," the official added.
Additional special teams, made up of an officer and four staff members, will also be deployed at Park Street Metro station. A sufficient number of RPF staff will be present at Park Street, Maidan, and Esplanade stations to provide proper guidance to commuters.
