Comprehensive Security Measures in Kolkata for New Year’s Eve

Kolkata, Dec 31 (NationPress) Extensive security measures have been implemented in Kolkata on the eve of New Year's Day as countless individuals are expected to take to the streets to celebrate the night with loved ones.
A total of 4,500 police officers will be deployed on the streets starting from Tuesday afternoon until early Wednesday morning to ensure that the festive atmosphere remains unharmed. Out of these, 2,500 officers will be concentrated in the Park Street area, recognizing it as the most vibrant location in the city during festivities such as Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
The entire security operation will be overseen by a senior officer with the rank of Additional Commissioner of Police, who will be supported by two Joint Commissioners, 12 Deputy Commissioners, 23 Assistant Commissioners, and 70 Inspectors.
Almost the entire vicinity surrounding Park Street has been designated as a “no-parking zone”. There will be a total of 11 watch towers in the area, along with 15 police assistance booths. A special unit of female officers, known as the “Winners Team”, will be actively patrolling throughout the city during the night.
Additionally, there will be several quick response teams, heavy radio patrol units, undercover officers, and combat forces. Apart from the police, the state disaster management department has also prepared its teams for any unforeseen emergencies.
Trauma-care ambulances will be stationed at various points across the city, along with the deployment of life-saving disaster management teams near river points in and around the area. Personnel from the River Traffic Police Department will conduct continuous patrols on the water using speedboats.
“Typically, security arrangements are meticulously planned for this day every year with a focus on the Park Street area. However, this year, taking into account various factors, the security measures in the city have been enhanced significantly. All units have been placed on high alert,” remarked a senior official from the city police.
