Is K’taka BJP Launching a Campaign Against Garbage and Potholes?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Nov 4 (NationPress) The Karnataka BJP is set to initiate a week-long campaign focused on the critical issues of garbage disposal and potholes in Bengaluru.
During a press conference following discussions with MLAs and MPs, the Leader of the Opposition, R. Ashoka, stated, "We convened a meeting with all representatives to address the challenges facing Bengaluru. The Congress government's mismanagement has transformed the city into a dumping ground."
He highlighted the prevalence of potholes and garbage on every street, urging citizens to rise against the administration that has failed the city. A decision was made to carry out inspections over the next week.
Furthermore, a signature collection drive will be executed across all assembly constituencies from November 6 to 15.
Ashoka emphasized the need to gather public viewpoints on A Khata and B Khata matters.
“The government has devised a scheme to extract funds from this. They lack finances for the city's development,” he asserted.
He mentioned that there is no necessity to impose such financial burdens. “People cannot afford these excessive costs,” he noted.
Ashoka also pointed out attempts to boost registration by 5% to extract commissions.
“A garbage cess has been imposed, placing a burden on residents. BESCOM is charging extra for temporary electricity connections, prompting inflated fees, which is being supported by BESCOM. The citizens of Bengaluru do not desire such exorbitant pricing,” he claimed.
He stated that spending thousands of crores to construct tunnel roads is unwarranted, and that there is no need to demolish parks like Lalbagh for road construction.
“Previously, when plans for a steel bridge were proposed, we insisted on a concrete road. We are not opposed to tunnel roads but argue that they shouldn't be necessary for the convenience of Delhi officials,” he remarked.
Ashoka accused the government of implementing 150 different price hikes.
He pointed out that Karnataka ranks second in farmers' suicides, noting ongoing protests by farmers in Belagavi and Chamarajanagar.
He urged Congress President Kharge and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to clearly communicate that there will be no changes in the Chief Minister's position.
“They must confirm that Siddaramaiah will remain as Chief Minister for the full term. If they do, we will remain silent. Regardless of who becomes CM, development will not be realized,” he concluded.
