Key Takeaways
Tumakuru, Feb 13 (NationPress) An FIR has been lodged against a Block Education Officer (BEO), a headmaster, and two teachers following an incident where a Class 1 student lost parts of two fingers at a government school located in Guluru village, Tumakuru taluk, Karnataka, on Friday.
The complaint was filed at the Tumakuru Rural Police Station after the child's parents alleged negligence and a significant delay in communication regarding the incident. The FIR implicates BEO Hanumantappa, Headmaster Nagesh, teacher Renukamma, and Cluster Resource Person (CRP) Venkatesh.
According to police reports, the incident transpired on February 9 at the Government School in Guluru. The victim, Chinmayi Devi, daughter of Ambika and Basavaraju, was in line for the midday meal when she accidentally placed her hand on the edge of an iron classroom door. The door was reportedly pushed with force, leading to severe injuries and the loss of parts of her middle and ring fingers on her right hand.
Initially, the severed portions of her fingers were reported missing, necessitating a search. One finger was partially severed, while the other was significantly damaged.
The incident, which took place on February 9, only became public knowledge later.
Tumakuru Superintendent of Police Ashok K.V. confirmed that a case has been filed against four officials for alleged negligence and failure to prevent the situation. He stated that actions would ensue following a thorough investigation.
The parents claimed that the teachers failed to arrange immediate medical care and instead merely poured water on the injured hand, only informing them after a considerable delay. They further accused the school officials of not promptly communicating the severity of the child's injury.
In response to these allegations, BEO Hanumantappa asserted that the student was taken to a private hospital for treatment immediately after the incident. “I was not present at the time of the incident. I later visited the school and met the child's parents. Since no explanation was provided by the headmaster, I have submitted a report to the Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI),” he mentioned.
He added that notices were issued to the relevant staff and that follow-up actions would be undertaken.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa expressed that he has requested a report on the incident and promised strict measures if negligence is confirmed. “The teachers should have immediately informed the parents. I will ascertain who is at fault. Such incidents are unacceptable. If anyone is found culpable, we will take decisive action,” he stated in Bengaluru on Friday.
The injured child is reported to be stable and recovering, although she continues to experience discomfort. The event has incited outrage among parents and community members, who are now demanding accountability and stringent actions against the responsible individuals.
