Hyderabad, April 27 (NationPress) — Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) has directed party workers across Telangana to hoist BRS party flags in every village, town, constituency, and district headquarters on Monday, April 28, to commemorate the party's Formation Day. The directive came during a teleconference KTR held with party cadres on Sunday, signalling an effort to project organisational strength despite the party's recent electoral setbacks.

State-Level Delegates' Meeting at Telangana Bhavan

KTR announced that a state-level delegates' meeting will be convened on Monday at Telangana Bhavan, Hyderabad, beginning at 1:30 PM. He clarified that, given the limited seating capacity at the venue, only those who have received formal invitations should attend the meeting.

Invitations have been extended exclusively to State Executive Committee members, Members of Parliament (MPs), Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs), district presidents, former public representatives, and former chairpersons of various corporations. Leaders and workers not invited are urged to organise celebrations in their own constituencies on a large scale.

Delegates travelling from distant locations have been advised to complete flag-hoisting ceremonies in their local areas in the morning before arriving in Hyderabad by 1:30 PM.

Why the Plenary Was Scaled Down This Year

KTR explained that the full plenary session has been replaced with a more compact State Executive Committee meeting this time, in line with directives from BRS President and former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR). Two key factors drove this decision: the massive public meeting recently held in Jagtial and the intense summer heat currently gripping Telangana.

This scaling down is notable — in previous years, BRS Formation Day events were large, high-profile affairs that projected the party's dominance in the state. The reduced format this year reflects the party's changed political circumstances following back-to-back electoral defeats.

BRS: From Telangana's Ruling Party to Opposition Rebuilding

KCR founded the party as Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in 2001 with the singular goal of achieving a separate Telangana state. That dream was realised on June 2, 2014, when Telangana was formally carved out of Andhra Pradesh, making TRS the founding party of a new Indian state.

After nearly a decade in power, TRS was rebranded as BRS in 2022, with KCR harbouring ambitions of expanding the party's footprint to other states and positioning himself as a national alternative. Those ambitions were severely dented when BRS lost power to the Indian National Congress in the December 2023 Telangana Assembly elections.

The blow deepened in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, when BRS drew a complete blank — failing to win a single parliamentary seat, its worst-ever electoral performance. The party, which once held a commanding majority in Telangana, now finds itself rebuilding from scratch as a marginalised opposition force.

Formation Day as a Political Reset Signal

Organising a visible, state-wide Formation Day celebration carries clear political messaging for BRS. By mobilising cadres across every village and district, the party aims to demonstrate that its grassroots network remains intact despite electoral losses. It is also an internal morale exercise — keeping workers engaged and loyal during a difficult period in opposition.

Notably, the choice to hold the event at Telangana Bhavan — a symbol of the party's historical identity — rather than a large public venue underscores the party's current strategic caution. Critics, however, may read the scaled-down format as an acknowledgement of reduced public support and enthusiasm.

The BRS Formation Day on April 28 will be closely watched as a barometer of the party's organisational health ahead of future local body elections and the next Telangana Assembly election cycle. Whether the party can convert symbolic flag-hoisting into genuine political revival remains the defining question for KCR and KTR in the months ahead.
