Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) on Monday threatened to lay siege to Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi's residence in Delhi unless the Congress government in Telangana delivers on its pre-election promise of 2 lakh jobs for the state's youth. The warning came at a press conference in Hyderabad, where KTR also trained his fire on Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy over what he described as a systematic betrayal of young job-seekers.

The unfulfilled job promise

KTR alleged that despite a commitment to fill 2 lakh jobs in the first year of the Congress government, fewer than 10,000 positions have been filled in two years. He pointed specifically to the police department, where he claimed 20,000 vacancies exist but notifications have been issued for only 7,000 posts. He added that the 'Job Calendar' tabled in the state legislature has produced no tangible outcome, and that not even one of 24 commitments under the Youth and Student Declarations has been honoured.

Student suicide attempt cited as flashpoint

KTR drew attention to a student named Venu from Khammam, who reportedly attempted suicide over the delay in the Telangana State Public Service Commission's notification for Group 1-4 jobs and was said to be fighting for his life at the time of the press conference. According to KTR, the student's handwritten note demanded that Rahul Gandhi, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka introduce annual job calendars on the lines of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). 'Where is Rahul Gandhi while young people here are resorting to suicide?' KTR asked, describing the note as 'a charge sheet against your incompetent and inept governance.'

Attacks on Revanth Reddy's record

KTR sharply criticised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for reportedly calling engineers 'criminal waste,' and questioned why Rahul Gandhi had remained silent on the remark. He also questioned Revanth Reddy's academic credentials, asking whether the Chief Minister had ever appeared for a competitive examination or interview — remarks that drew immediate political attention. 'Neither Rahul nor Revanth has the courage to come forward and speak to the students,' KTR said, contrasting Gandhi's reported responsiveness to lathi-charge incidents in BJP-ruled states with his alleged silence on similar events in Congress-governed ones.

Ease of doing business and tech jobs

The BRS leader also flagged Telangana's slide from 1st to 13th position in the ease of doing business rankings since the Congress government assumed power, attributing the decline to what he described as a lack of progressive policies and allegations of extortion by cabinet ministers and their associates. Citing data from NASSCOM and the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), he claimed that technology-sector employment in the state has contracted under the current administration.

BRS stance on anti-paper-leak law

On the anti-paper-leak bill recently passed in Parliament, KTR said the legislation alone would achieve little without implementation and intent. 'A bill alone achieves nothing. What matters is implementation and intent,' he said, adding that the critical questions of who will execute the law and how the Centre will coordinate with states remain unanswered. He said BRS had welcomed the bill in principle but reserved judgement on its effectiveness pending operational details. He also appealed to unemployed youth not to take their own lives, pledging that BRS would fill vacancies once it returned to power.
